One site wildlife Uganda to boost tourism

Uganda Wildlife Authority  launched a wildlife portal featuring all the 10 national parks, game reserves and activities UWA is undertaking to preserve Uganda’s precious wildlife and protected areas. It is designed to promote Uganda as a premier tourist destination to a global market.

The new website is meant to be as engaging as the 10 national parks it promotes, each of which is featured in its very own micro-site. “An extensive resource for travelers and conservation experts alike, the site includes information on conservation, communities, and wildlife, with details about tourist activities such as game drives, gorilla tracking, and wildlife monitoring,” according to Mr. Andrew Sseguya, the UWA executive director.

Sseguya stresses the new portal promotes each park with professional photography and short video clips, and features a mobile site formatted for smart-phones and tablets. It has other features, like plan your trip and sample itineraries, a wildlife directory, and meet the rangers.

This allows potential travelers the chance to customize their experience before they travel. It is rounded out with extensive GPS mapping of key attractions linked to Google Maps. Also included are pages for journalists, prospective investors, young people, and researchers.

Prime Minister Mr. Amama Mbabazi of Uganda remarks that “the new website portal could not have come at a better time than now when we are celebrating key milestones in the tourism sector and enjoying international accolades from reputable international institutions such as Lonely Planet, National Geographic and New York Times”.

Supported by US government through  USAID Sustainable Tourism in the Albertine Rift (STAR) program, the new development is considered cornerstone for future e-marketing and combined use of the social media through links to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and even Trip Advisor, allowing site visitors to instantly share their most liked feature with their social network friends.

The minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Professor Ephraim Kamuntu applaudes Uganda Wildlife Authority for the development which will address the much needed marketing for Ugandan products, attractions ad traditional hospitality. He argues that Uganda can be transformed into the Mecca, Rome or Jerusalem of Africa as the most preferred tourism destination.
